Select Program

Select Program

The Oshkosh United Select program is for 11U through 18U soccer players looking for a challenging and rewarding soccer experience. The 11U age group encompasses 9U and 10U players that can play at 11U until they become a 12U player. At the younger age levels (11U - 14U) our club focuses on individual player development over winning. It is our belief that developing strong players will lead to the development of strong teams as players get older.

Select teams at Oshkosh United have professional coaches that have been licensed by the WI Youth Soccer Association. All of the coaches follow a club created developmental philosophy and skill curriculum to maximize player development and enjoyment. Our coaches are guided and receive ongoing coaching education from our coaching directors:

  • Director of Coaching: Matt Callahan
  • Associate Director of Coaching - Select Teams: Brian Casey
  • Associate Director of Coaching - Elite Teams: Greg Ruark
  • Technical Director: Toby Bares

The soccer year runs from August 1st through July 31st. A player's "soccer age" is determined by the year they were born. Check out the age eligibility chart (link to the right) to check what age level your child would compete at. Players tryout in June for the following season. The evaluation staff makes every effort to place all players that attend tryouts on a team. Players are evaluated through a variety of different methods before being placed on a team. Current players are evaluated by their team coach and then compared to new players by the coaching directors and other tryout evaluation staff (not affiliated with the age group team).

All of our teams begin competing in the East Central league. The East Central league spans clubs ranging from Neenah to Green Bay. The East Central League has different divisions (Classic 1, Classic 2, Classic 3) so teams are placed in a league that is appropriate for the skill level of the players. Having multiple teams at multiple levels of play insures that all players face an appropriate level of competion. East Central offers a league in the fall and also in the spring. When players tryout they are trying out for the spring season as that is the primary season. Players can elect to play in the fall season as well. In the Fall, East Central teams play games on weekends. In the Spring, East Central teams play on weeknights (each team has a specific night they play on - check out "Days of Play" link to the right).

Teams that are 13U and older that finish first or second in the East Central League can apply (if interested) to enter the WI Youth Soccer State League. State League teams play games on weekends against teams throughout the state. Most games typically take place in the Milwaukee or Madison area. The WI Youth Soccer State League offers various divisions as well (Second Division, First Division, Premier Division). Teams typically start at the First or Second Division level and can work their way into the Premier Divsion if they win the First Divison.

If a team wins the Premier Division they have the option to enter the Midwest Regional League (MRL). MRL teams play teams from across the region. Typically the schedule is created so a team would play 2-3 games in a weekend to reduce the amount of travel required.

Most of our teams compete at the East Central level, several compete at the WI Youth Soccer State League level, and a few of our teams compete at the MRL level.

All teams attend tournaments to provide additional soccer experiences. Teams will typically play one tournament during the fall season and three tournaments in the spring season. One of the spring tournaments will be our own "Oshkosh on the Water" soccer tournament. The others are typically in the Fox Valley and occasionally in the Madison or Milwaukee area.

Oshkosh United has excellent coaching and board leadership that is constantly striving to improve our programs. Check out the links to the right to find out more information!
